How do I send stock from Schwab myself?

Written by Support

You submit this transfer to Schwab. Daffy does not send it for you. Creating a stock intent tells Daffy to expect your shares. It does not start the transfer.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Schwab account number

  • The ticker and number of shares you're contributing

  • The cost basis of those shares (record it now because Schwab may not keep that information after the transfer)

  • Your choice of immediate or custom liquidation, which decides which form you use (Does Daffy sell my stock after I contribute it?)

How do I send stock from Schwab myself?

  1. Create a stock intent. Log into Daffy and complete the stock intent form.

  2. Download Daffy's pre-filled Schwab form that matches your liquidation choice:

  3. Fill in your Schwab account details, the securities, number of shares, and lot details. Leave Daffy's receiving details as they are.

  4. Don't check the box to make the gift anonymous. Daffy needs your name to attribute the shares to your fund.

  5. Print and sign the form, then upload it to your Schwab Message Center to submit it for review.

Daffy's receiving details

The pre-filled forms already include these. Use them if you aren't using a pre-filled form.

  • Name of Receiving Institution: Apex Clearing

  • DTC Number: 0158

  • Account Title: Daffy Charitable Fund

  • Receiving Institution Account Number, immediate liquidation: 9SC05050 (three zeros)

  • Receiving Institution Account Number, custom liquidation: 9SC05015

  • Contact Name at Charitable Organization: Alex Gyr

  • Telephone Number: support@daffy.org. If a number is required, use Apex's: 214-765-1345

What happens after I submit the form?

When your shares arrive and match your stock intent, Daffy notifies you and attributes them to your fund. Transfer timing depends on Schwab. If it's been more than 7 business days since Schwab sent the shares and you don't see them in your Daffy fund, contact Schwab's support team.

Cost basis

Record your cost basis before you transfer the shares. Daffy does not have access to cost basis information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose which tax lots Schwab sends?

Yes. Enter the specific lots and their cost basis on the Schwab form before you submit it. Lot choices generally can't be changed after the transfer.

Can I make the gift anonymous?

No. Daffy needs your name on the transfer to attribute the shares to your fund.

What if Schwab already sent my shares and I didn't create an intent?

Create the intent now and contact support@daffy.org with the ticker, number of shares, and date sent so Daffy can match the transfer.
