Overview
Daffy for Work is a workplace giving benefit that gives employees a personal Daffy donor-advised fund. Your employer, not Daffy, decides how its Daffy for Work program works. Every program is different, so your employer’s Benefits team is the source of truth for your specific program’s details.
Before you contribute or make plans based on a match, check your company’s benefits documentation or contact your Benefits team to confirm what your employer’s program includes.
What can a Daffy for Work program include?
Daffy for Work programs usually include one or more of these benefits. Your employer may offer one, two, or all three.
Benefit | What your employer does | What you need to do |
Membership dues | Pays your monthly Daffy membership dues | Link your Daffy account to your employer’s program |
Contribution match | Adds money to your Daffy fund based on contributions you make | Link your account, then contribute to your Daffy fund |
Scheduled contributions | Adds a set amount to your Daffy fund on a regular schedule | Link your account. No contribution of your own is required |
In every case, the first step is the same: link your Daffy account to your employer’s program.
Common Scenarios
The scenarios below are examples only. They show how different programs can work. Your employer’s amounts, limits, and schedules may be different. Contact your Benefits team to confirm what your employer’s program includes.
Company A: Membership dues
Company A pays its employees’ Daffy membership dues. Company A does not add money to employee funds.
Jordan links their Daffy account to Company A’s program. Jordan pays no monthly membership fee while working at Company A.
Company B: Contribution match
Company B matches employee contributions dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 per year.
Sam contributes $3,000 to their Daffy fund. Company B adds a $3,000 match to Sam’s fund.
Sam then recommends a $3,000 donation from their Daffy fund to a food bank. This donation does not trigger another match, because Company B matches contributions, not donations.
Sam is eligible for up to $2,000 more in employer matches this calendar year. To receive it, Sam needs to make more contributions to their Daffy fund.
Once the match lands in Sam’s Daffy fund, Sam can recommend donations to any eligible charity on Sam’s own timeline.
Company C: Scheduled contributions
Company C adds $100 to each linked employee’s Daffy fund every month, whether or not the employee contributes.
Lisa links her Daffy account to Company C’s program and doesn’t make any contributions. Company C still adds $100 to Lisa's Daffy fund each month. Lisa can recommend donations from that balance whenever she chooses.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Daffy for Work different from a donation matching program?
Most employer matching programs match donations you make to charities. Daffy for Work programs that include a match work differently: the employer matches contributions you make into your Daffy fund.
A contribution is money you add to your Daffy fund, using Add Funds.
A donation is money sent from your Daffy fund to a charity, using Donate.
Daffy for Work does not match donations you recommend from your Daffy fund to charities. It also does not match donations you make to charities outside of Daffy, such as a credit card gift on a charity’s website. If your employer runs a separate donation matching program, that program is managed by your employer, not by Daffy.
How do I make sure I receive my employer’s Daffy for Work benefit?
Link your Daffy account to your employer’s Daffy for Work program. See How do I set up my Daffy for Work benefit?
How much will my employer match, and when will the match arrive?
Match amounts, annual limits, and timing are set by your employer and differ from program to program. Daffy can’t confirm the details of a specific employer’s program. Check your company’s benefits documentation or contact your Benefits team for your program’s match amount, limits, and schedule.
Is my employer’s contribution tax-deductible for me?
No. Only contributions you make to your Daffy fund can qualify for your charitable tax deduction. Matches, scheduled contributions from your employer, and membership dues your employer pays are not deductible for you.
Who should I contact with questions about my program?
Contact your employer’s Benefits team for questions about what your program includes, such as match amounts, limits, eligibility, and schedules. Contact Daffy at support@daffy.org for help with your Daffy account, such as linking your account, making contributions, or recommending donations.
