How do I contribute stock from my Betterment account?

Written by Support

You start this donation on Betterment.com. Betterment lists Daffy as a charity option, so there's no form to fill out. This feature is only available on Betterment.com.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Betterment login credentials

  • The Betterment account and amount you want to contribute

  • A Daffy account that uses the same email address as your Betterment account. If you don't have one yet, you'll be prompted to create one.

How do I contribute stock from Betterment?

  1. Log into Betterment.com and go to the Transfers page.

  2. Scroll down to Other Ways to Transfer and select Donate to Charity.

  3. Select Daffy from the list of charities. If you don't have a Daffy account, create one using the same email address as your Betterment account.

  4. Select the Betterment account you want to contribute from and the amount.

  5. Review and confirm your contribution.

What happens after I confirm?

Your contribution appears in your Daffy account within 1 business day after it leaves your Betterment account. Once Daffy receives and liquidates your shares, your Daffy balance updates to reflect the proceeds. You can then log into Daffy and donate to almost any U.S. charity.

Cost basis

Record your cost basis before you transfer the shares. Daffy does not have access to cost basis information.
